Day 70: The Ultimate Destination: Personal Happiness

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life.  When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.  I wrote down ‘happy’.  They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.

~ John Lennon

Many of us humans seek happiness outside of ourselves, which is okay, but external things don’t always generate personal happiness.  I’m of the opinion that personal happiness begins from within.  If you aren’t happy inside, nothing outside of yourself will make you happy.

But sometimes this is difficult to attain, and often, that happiness inside wavers.  I’ve never met a person who was happy with themselves every waking moment.  It’s a veritable impossibility.  Why?  Because as we go through life, we change.  With those changes comes varying levels of personal happiness.

What’s important is to constantly work toward being happy with ourselves.  Accept your own shortcomings.  Forgive yourself for past mistakes.  Rejoice in your successes.  But no matter what you do, find happiness in being you.
