Day 49: The Gauntlet Has Been Thrown

Everything has beauty, but not everyone can see.

~ Confucius

The most difficult beauty to recognize is personal beauty.  As a society, we have been conditioned to look for the negative in ourselves, not the positive; “I’m too fat,” “My nose is too big,” “I’m too skinny”; these are the things we tell ourselves.  Things that society expects us to say, and if someone comes along and says the opposite about themselves, they are shunned.  Labeled egotistical and arrogant.

I’m of the opinion that it’s critical to self-worth that we find our internal beauty; our personal attractiveness.  Each one of us possesses this elusive loveliness in unique ways, and it’s this uniqueness that I look for in others.  It’s there, in everyone, I promise you that.  But what’s most difficult is to find these extraordinary characteristics in ourselves.  To stand in front of the mirror and tell ourselves that, despite our flaws and short-comings, we are beautiful.

I’m throwing down the gauntlet for each of my readers:  I challenge you to find one beautiful thing about yourself each day, for 7 days.  I hope by the end, you’ll see a shift in your perspective about yourself.

Try it.  Be brave.
