“It’s your place in the world; it’s your life. Go on and do all you can with it, and make it the life you want to live.”
~ Mae Jemison
Why in the world would anyone settle for less than what they want? Less than what they deserve? I know I wouldn’t, although, this wasn’t always the case. There was a time when I settled for what I could get. Barely squeaking by was something that I was happy for, all be it this happiness was always temporary.
It wasn’t until I didn’t settle that I found my own true happiness. This joy didn’t align with what others thought was best for me. It didn’t make the grade according to the external standards that were constantly thrust upon me, jammed down my throat until all I could do was wretch and choke.
I tired of the taste of others’ dreams for me. It left my tongue coated in bitterness and anger. I can tell you, the moment I refused to settle on someone else’s idea of a perfect life, I found true freedom in myself. I found my own path to happiness and love and acceptance.
What a glorious place to be in; a place designed for me by me. No one else could possible fill those shoes of an expert on my life. That expertise is singularly mine.
Please, never settle on someone else’s dreams for you – they will never fit perfectly upon your feet.
