“An unexamined life is not worth living.”
~ Socrates
At first, today’s inspirational quote left me speechless. I literally sat in front of the computer, with my cursor blinking at me in defiance and daring me to put any words or thoughts about it to the screen. I thought that no matter what I wrote about on this post, it might never rise the level of importance that this quote represents for me.
For me, this quote is about self-growth and development. If we aren’t moving forward, then aren’t we already dead (metaphorically, of course)? And if this is the case, if we are living dead, then is the present life worth living?
I’ll put it out there – no, if you are not growing and furthering who you are, then the current life you lead isn’t worth much. Simply because you’ve become that hamster, running the steel wheel, never getting to any destination except for the one you’re currently stuck in. Believe me, I’ve been the hamster many times in my life, and that journey is tiresome and boring.
The best thing I ever did for myself was to never settle on something. To continually challenge myself. Whether that be college, work, my relationships, my hobbies, or even my writing. I’ve thrown the gauntlet down and stepped up to the challenge. It hasn’t always been easy, but I can tell you, every moment of it has been worth it.
Give it a try sometime. You might surprise yourself.
