“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do, so throw off the bowlines, sail away from safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, Dream, Discover.”
~ Mark Twain
We all have regret. It’s unavoidable. But this quote encourages us to explore the world around us; to dream bigger dreams than we thought possible; to discover new things within our world that we might have missed. Most importantly, this quote tells us not to wait, else risk bitter disappointment and regret in the end.
It’s good advice, but hard to put into practice, especially with the day-to-day responsibilities that must be met. The underlying, hum-drum existence that we endure to ensure survival. Work, bills, responsibilities – these work against us in the pursuit of dreams and discovery. But I do think it’s possible to allot time for doing just this. Maybe a Saturday drive to nowhere or a walk through the woods can lead us to unexpected discoveries.
Make time for exploration. Dream of something more. Discover new things to love.
I love this. I am really trying to focus on doing this now. Sick of putting off living my life!
