“If you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else.”
~ Booker T. Washington
I must say that today’s inspirational quote is true, and for those of you who have never experienced the joy of lifting those around you up, you are missing out. This is something that I try to practice in my professional life as much as humanly possible. For me, there is no other satisfaction like seeing a colleague beam a smile when their efforts are recognized.
But I think this can be applied in our personal lives as well. For instance, when I tell my daughter that her poetry is fantastic, that I read her work and it touched me, she almost glows with happiness and confidence. Lifting others up builds self-confidence in a healthy way. Too many times we only hear the negative. We only hear about our mistakes.
Well what about the good things that people do? Shouldn’t those be recognized over mistakes made?
Funny thing is, when you lift someone else up, you ultimately lift yourself up. Through recognizing the accomplishments of others, you catapult your own stature. Your admiration of others is always reciprocated. So, go out today and lift someone else up. They just might need the boost.
